Fogey’s Cove
Very proud to announce the launch of my latest web project Fogey’s Cove, a place for the great unheard to congregate. This is my third website for Canadian writer Susan Alexander. The first being The Mammalian Daily, a fun satirical newspaper style website about animals that live in the park. And She Came To Play featuring short stories by Susan and others.
Susan’s vision for Fogeys Cove is to provide social media site for the fogey’s/baby boomers/seniors/young at heart/people over 50 to share the important and not so important stories of their lives. Forum topics include Fogey Lore, Fogey Wisdom, Mark My Words, The Way We Were and Regrets, I’ve Had A Few. 🙂
The thing that really sets Fogey’s Cove apart from other sites and makes it special in my portfolio is the introduction video on the home page. Susan’s idea was to welcome folks and to give some history of Fogey’s Cove through a illustrated story board with narration. Josh and I gave this a lot of thought and at one point we had a video camera suspended from the chandelier while he drew the illustrations on a white magic erase board. Unfortunately the video quality and lighting was poor so it was back to the “drawing board” (no pun intended).
Then I found the perfect software for the job. With VideoScribe by Sparkol we were able to use vector illustrations by Josh Rivers and Susan’s voice narration to make this awesome Fogey’s Cove intro.
Susan felt it was important to keep the intro video short but we also wanted to show “how to use the site” in video format in case our audience was not familiar with participating on online discussions. So we made this illustrated “how it” as a separate video also with Susan’s voice over narration.
The Fogey’s Cove logo is designed by me with colours provided by Susan and she requested the quote marks as graphic interest. We went with the old typewriter font since we are fogeys after all. 🙂
Of course the site is powered by WordPress on the Genesis Framework with “News” Theme. We extended the WP functionality with buddyPress and bbPress social networking and forums. The site is fully responsive to any media screen size and integrated with Fogey’s Cove social media network.
I hope to see you all over at Fogey’s Cove. We would love to hear your stories!
